When braking the electric drive, the braking resistor is connected to the bus of the DC link of the frequency converter and the energy from the electric motor that occurs during operation in generator mode is dissipated on it. The braking resistor protects the frequency converter from triggering protection due to overvoltage in the DC link and, accordingly, from stopping the drive.
